The Museum of Scotland
Honey-coloured sand-stone from Morayshire, finishs in ashwood, many windows – in this style the new museum in Chambers Street in the heart of Edinburgh welcomes visitors. Important parts are the tower, the Hawthornden Court, the Royal Museum and the Galleries. Around  10.000 years of civilisation history and culture of a land, which has been around 600 years an independent kingdom, are present here. Some of the highlights: the crozier of St.Killan (a confrere of famous celtic christian missionary St.Columba), the most excellent Monymusk-reliquary, jewels of Mary Queen of Scots, the silver canteen of Charles Edward Stewart (“Bonnie PrinceCharlie”), the metal part of the sporran of Rob Roy McGregor, a fine oakwood figure of St.Andrew, the Nations patron – etc, etc…

Donations from allover the world
Ca. 40 million people are living allover the world, who have Scottish ancestors, so gifts (objects) and donations came from many countries and many of them have never been presented in an exihibition until today. The “Museum of Scotland Campaign” was started any years ago, administered by The National Museums of Scotland Trust and with a branch-office in USA. In relation to her outstanding merits and achievements Dr. Sheila Brock, leader of the Campaign Office, was awarded rank and distinction of Honourary Member of our St.Andrew-Association with date of St.Andrew’s day 1998.

Also YOU can support!
To supporters Scotlands new treasury offers thanks and acknowledgement in three classes: When you makes gift of P.Sterling 1.500 and upwards, you become a Steward of the Museum of Scotland (name etched on windows in the Entrance Hall); when you give P.Sterling 10.000 or more, bou become a Guardian of the Museum of Scotland (name inscribed on wood) and if you make a gift of P.Sterling 50.000 or above, your name as Fonder of the Museum of Scotland is carvedin stone (informations: The Museum for Scotland Project, Chambers Street, Edinburgh EH11JF, Scotland, Fax: 0131- 220 1870; also excellent designed folders etc. are available).

It’s an obligation of honour for the order (and its afilliated organizations, especially StAA) and for all of its members- where ever they may live- to support “our” museum as best as possible (gifts, donations, public relations etc.) in Austria our Grand Master, The Hon Laird of Bladnock and Lochanbards, personally realizes an information-campaign (Austrian newspapers, magazines etc.) for the museum in relation to his profession as journalist/author. If you have objects, which could be of interest for the museum, please directly contact Dr. Sheila Brock and her team.

A worthy “home”for the order now: Balgonie Castle
With date of Oct. 10th 1998 the “contract” between our Grand Master and our distinguished Chev. Col. Raymond Morris 32nd Laird of Balgonie and Eddergoll, could be realized: The official seat of the order and its affiliated organizations (StAA, SAVC & SAND) up from now is the impressive and well known BALGONIE CASTLE by Markinch (Fife, Scotland). To the orders 310th anniversary and 10years-jubilee of restoration indeed a”most noble Home for a most noble community” and we have to express our heartliest thanks to Chev. Raymand Morris for his generous and kindly gesture, done in the spirit of his family device Truth And Chivalry.

Also Balgonie Castle now is one of the orders hereditary commanderies; ordersflag flying there now kindly was produced by The Younger Laird, our Chev.Stuart GC. Morris of Balgonie and Eddergoll, an excellent heraldic artist, historian and author – best thanks also to him!

Situated in the centre of Fife, Balgonie Castle is classed as one of the finest 14th century towers in Scotland, probably built by Sir Thomas Sibbald of Balgonie, Lord High Treasurer of Scotland. The massive tower house was added to over the centuries, until1720 with the construction of the final wing by the 3rd Earl of Leven. He founded the Kings Own Scottish Borderers in 1689, and was the first Governor of the Bank of Scotland.

The 1st Earl of Levenand Lord Balgonie was the most famous Laird of Balgonie, who, as Sir Alexander Leslie, was Field Marshall to the Swedish Crown, serving in the first twenty years of the Thirty War. Returning to Scotland, Leslie was appointed Lord General of the Scottish Army of the Covenant during the English Civil War.

Mary and Rob Roy
The castle was visited by King James IV on the 20th of August 1496, and by Mary Queen of Scots in 1565. Rob Roy MacGegor garrisoned Balgonie with 200 clansmen and 20 Hanovarian prisoners in January1716.

With this historic background, the current Laird and Lady of Balgonie are working a long term programme of restoration, with the aim of returnig Balgonie back to its former glory. Balgonies 14th century candlelight chapel is now accepted as one of the most romantic wedding venues in Scotland, with a wide range of international bridal couples. The 14th century candlelight Great Hall is available for wedding receptions. Banquets, corporate entertainment etc.

Balgonie is arare example of a working castle and a living museum and has appeared on national and international TV. The castle is open to the public every day of the year, 10am – 5pm, unless hired for a private function. For further details contact:
